At 7:24 p.m. ET Tuesday in the Poconos, President Donald Trump signaled that he didn't really want to talk about what his speech was supposed to be about: affordability.
"By the way, if I read what's on the teleprompter, you'd all be falling asleep right now," Trump said.
The rest of the speech made it abundantly clear – for the umpteenth time – that he'd prefer to pretend that this very real and very politically problematic issue simply didn't exist, rather than offer prescriptions.
Within just two hours of that remark, though, Republicans got two new reminders of the potential cost of Trump's disinterest.
