Former Memphis Police Officers Not Guilty of Most Serious Charge in Tyre Nichols’s Death

Three former Memphis police officers were convicted of obstructing justice in the 2023 death of Tyre Nichols, but acquitted on the most serious civil rights charge in a federal trial that lasted about a month. 

A Tennessee jury deliberated for about six hours Thursday afternoon before returning a mixed verdict against former officers Tadarrius Bean, Justin Smith and Demetrius Haley.
