Federal prosecutors indicted New York Mayor Eric Adams on corruption charges on Thursday, and his fellow Democrats wasted no time calling for him to resign. Their calls are really about their own political ambitions, and Mr. Adams deserves the presumption of innocence like any other American citizen.

Mr. Adams faces five counts, including two for soliciting campaign contributions from a foreign citizen, and one count each of bribery, wire fraud, and conspiracy. Federal prosecutors say the crimes go back 10 years, starting when Mr. Adams was Brooklyn borough president. The charges boil down to campaign-finance violations and accepting flight and hotel upgrades without paying full freight for the luxury accommodations.
