North Korea fires over 10 missiles, South Korea responds with own tests

North Korea fired about a dozen missiles toward the South’s direction Wednesday, prompting Seoul to conduct air-to-surface missile tests in response to the hermit kingdom’s latest weapons launch.

The unsettling tests between the two rivals come just hours after Pyongyang threatened to use nukes against the South.

One of the North Korean missiles even landed near the two countries’ tense sea border – roughly 16 miles away – as air sirens blared in South Korea. South Korea’s military said it was the first time that a North Korean missile landed so close to the sea border since 1948 when the countries split.

“This is very unprecedented and we will never tolerate it,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

A North Korean missile also landed about 100 miles northwest of South Korea’s Ulleung island, where an air raid sounded off.
