Celebrity surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz has secured the Republican nomination for the US Senate in Pennsylvania after his opponent, former hedge fund manager David McCormick, conceded the race Friday amid an ongoing statewide recount.
βItβs now clear to me with the recount now largely complete that we have a nominee,β McCormick said at a campaign party at a Pittsburgh hotel. βTonight is really about all of us coming together.β
McCormick called Oz to concede.
βThis evening I received a gracious phone call from David McCormick and am tremendously grateful for his pledge of support in the fall election,β Oz said in a statement Friday night.
βNow that our primary is over, we will make sure that this U.S. Senate seat does not fall into the hands of the radical left, led by John Fetterman. I look forward to campaigning in every corner of the Commonwealth for the next five months to earn the support of every Pennsylvanian,β said Oz.
