• Last week, in a closed-door briefing, intelligence officials warned lawmakers about Russian efforts to aid President Trump's re-election in 2020.
• According to the Washington Post, Sen. Bernie Sanders was also briefed. He was told that Russia was attempting to help his campaign in order to sow chaos in the Democratic primary.
• Upon hearing about the briefing(s), President Trump tweeted, "The Kremlin is reportedly backing Bernie Sanders bid to win the White House... Why didn’t somebody tell me this?"
• A few days later, President Trump replaced the acting Director of National Intelligence, Joseph McGuire, with Richard Grenell, the U.S. Ambassador to Germany.
• In a statement, Bernie Sanders proclaimed, "I don’t care, frankly, who [Russian President Vladimir] Putin wants to be president... My message to Putin is clear: Stay out of American elections, and as president I will make sure that you do."
