Obama Begins Camp David Meetings With Arab Allies

President Barack Obama and delegations from leading Persian Gulf states arrived at the presidential retreat here Thursday for six hours of meetings designed to narrow differences over the White House’s pursuit of a nuclear deal with Iran.

Mr. Obama convened the summit to address concerns from representatives of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, who worry a nuclear deal would embolden Iran and further destabilize the Middle East.

GCC nations are asking the U.S. for new security guarantees and military assistance to counter any Iranian threat. Mr. Obama is expected to grant some of their requests.

In return, the president wants GCC leaders to support an Iran deal, which the U.S. and other world powers are aiming to complete by June 30.
