Wall Street Journal (News)
The Trump administration is floating a new health-care proposal aimed at winning over House conservatives that could allow states to opt-out of some requirements in the Affordable Care Act.
The administration’s proposal, if it secures the support of the House conservatives, could be turned into legislation that would be part of a broader Republican effort to knock down key parts of the Obama-era health law.
Election Day 2016 should have been Christmas morning for Republicans. Long awaited control of the White House and both houses of Congress. A chance to deliver on an every two-year election cycle promise to repeal and replace Obamacare. In 2010 Republicans needed the House. They got it. In 2014, it was the Senate. Delivered. Throughout the debate to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, President Trump and Republican congressional leaders have insisted they would retain a crucial, popular part of the health law: the promise that people can buy insurance even if they’ve had illnesses in the past.
