What Did Fauci’s House Testimony Reveal About Him?

Former NIAID director Anthony Fauci testified to a House subcommittee on Monday, leading to a range of reflections on his legacy, the origins of COVID-19, and U.S. response to the pandemic.

‘Committee to Confirm Our Conspiracy Theories’: The Washington Post’s (Lean Left bias) Dana Milbank accused Republicans of using committees to pursue baseless narratives, saying, “Republicans on the panel, rather than focusing on lessons about masks, vaccines, and school and business closures that could save lives in the future, kept returning to the same conspiracy theories that are endangering Fauci’s life in the present.” He also accused “Fox News, the New York Post and the rest of the right-wing conspiracy machine” of running with Republicans’ purportedly spurious narratives.

‘Personality Cult’: National Review’s (Right bias) Noah Rothman said, “It should be bigger news that Dr. Anthony Fauci has admitted that social-distancing guidelines…’just sort of appeared,’” appearing to reference a statement where Fauci said the six-foot distance in public health guidelines “just appeared”; Fauci later clarified that the recommendation came from the CDC. Saying Democrats made Fauci the “avatar” of their dislike of Trump, Rothman cast “Fauci and his ilk” as regarding “the public’s individualistic behavior as a threat” to “their enterprise.” This echoed other conservative voices saying there was a “Fauci cover-up” that was now being exposed.
