SCOTUS Rules In Favor Of Roundup Weedkiller; Outlets Highlight MAHA Dissent

Summary from the AllSides News Team

The Supreme Court on Thursday granted immunity to Bayer, maker of the weedkiller Roundup, as outlets across the political spectrum highlighted dissent from the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement.

The Decision: The 7-2 decision ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has the sole authority over decisions for warning labels on pesticides, rather than state-based civil juries. The Trump administration joined the case on Bayer's side, which has been controversial among the MAHA movement.

Fractured MAHA-MAGA Relationship: The Washington Examiner (Lean Right bias) called the ruling a "blow to MAHA," saying the decision "will send a shockwave" through the MAHA movement. The article said that the "fractured MAHA-MAGA relationship" is "because of the Trump administration's support for Bayer," adding that "the decision will likely drive a wedge between the GOP and MAHA swing voters."

MAHA World Livid: The Daily Caller (Right) said the decision is "sparking outrage among supporters" of the MAHA movement and highlighted this in the article's headline saying "MAHA World Livid After SCOTUS Pesticides Ruling." The article included several statements from MAHA supporters disappointed over the ruling.

"Now The Midterm Issue": The New York Times (Lean Left) highlighted what the article called "an unusual pairing," saying that liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and conservative Justice Neil M. Gorsuch were the two dissenting voices on the nine-justice panel. Justice Jackson wrote that she viewed the majority decision as misunderstanding the scope of the federal law and left the Missouri man who lost the case "without a remedy for the significant harms he has suffered." The article also highlighted food activist and leading voice in the MAHA movement Vani Hari, also known as "the Food Babe," saying the ruling is "really sickening" and now "becomes now the midterm issue."

Executive Order: President Donald Trump, also on Thursday, issued an executive order aimed at reducing pesticides within the food supply and studying the health risks they pose. The New York Times said that Trump issued this order "as Kennedy allies fume," adding that the order "does not involve new federal funding, and does not call for regulations or legislation."
