Republicans Release FBI Document Discussing Allegations of Biden Family Bribery

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) publicly released a redacted FBI document detailing an informant’s account of conversations with the CEO of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, who said he paid $10 million to “the Bidens.”

The Details: The informant discussed two meetings and two phone calls with Burisma officials. In 2016, the informant said Burisma CEO Mykola Zlochevsky told him, “it cost 5 (million) to pay one Biden, and 5 (million) to another Biden.” In a phone call shortly after the 2016 election, Zlochevsky told the informant he had been “‘forced’ to pay the Bidens.” In 2019, the informant said Zlochevsky told him that “he did not send any funds directly to the ‘Big Guy’ (which [the informant] understood was a reference to Joe Biden).” However, the document notes the informant only spoke with Zlochevsky three times, and therefore could not provide “further opinion” on the “veracity” of his statements.

For Context: For months, Republicans like Grassley pursued the document as part of an investigation into potential wrongdoing by Hunter Biden and then-Vice President Joe Biden. The FBI initially limited access to the document, arguing its release could threaten the informant’s safety.

How the Media Covered It: While some headlines from the right framed the story as a “bombshell,” some on the left said it “shows nothing” or emphasized that the claims were “unverified.” The New York Post (Lean Right bias), which first reported on Hunter Biden’s laptop, featured the story on its homepage along with blurred nude photos of Hunter and the tagline, “FAMILY BUSINESS.”

GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa on Thursday released an internal FBI document containing unverified allegations President Joe Biden was involved in an illegal foreign bribery scheme.

The FBI had previously allowed members of the House Oversight Committee to privately view – but not obtain – the unclassified FBI document, known as an FD-1023.

Republicans, including Grassley and House Oversight Chairman James Comer, have been pushing for the FBI to publicly release the document, which the bureau has declined to do. Grassley said he was able to release the document himself because...

A bombshell FBI informant file describing a $10 million bribery allegation against President Biden and his son Hunter was released Thursday by Sen. Chuck Grassley, showing that a Ukrainian oligarch claimed that he was “coerced” into making the payoff.

Mykola Zlochevsky, the owner of natural gas company Burisma Holdings, told the FBI informant in 2016 while meeting at a coffee shop in Vienna, Austria, that “it cost 5 [million] to pay one Biden, and 5 [million] to another Biden,” according to the redacted FD-1023 form.

“Zlochevsky made some comment that although...

Republican allies of former President Donald Trump in Washington have thrown the kitchen sink at the White House and Biden family, just as Trump faces a potential third criminal indictment.

The dirt throwing escalated Thursday when Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, released an FBI-generated form that details allegations of corruption by the Biden family.

The document, called a FD-1023 form — which is used by FBI special agents to record unverified raw information from informants — contains allegations that Hunter Biden, the president's son, and another Biden family member received money from a...
