Musk Announces New Political Party to Challenge Democrats and Republicans

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and X, announced the formation of a new political party, the "America Party". 

The Details: Musk announced the new party on X, saying, “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.” The decision comes after Musk shared a poll asking his followers whether a new political party should be formed–65.4% of the over 1.2 million respondents voted "yes". Musk's party aims to challenge the Republican and Democratic two-party system, and contest a few key seats in Congress. However, he has not yet announced any specific policies or platform for his party.

For Context: Musk was a major financial backer for Trump during the 2024 presidential race, contributing significantly to his campaign through his super political action committee (PAC) titled America PAC. However, his relationship with Trump soured over disagreements on the "Big, Beautiful Bill" which Musk criticized for potentially adding trillions to the national debt. The fallout led to Musk leaving his role in the administration and a public feud on X.
