Police Chief, Officer Who Fatally Shot Daunte Wright Resign

Summary from the AllSides News Team

The police chief and the officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright, a 20-year old black man, have both resigned. Kim Potter, a 26-year department veteran, was already on administrative leave after fatally shooting Wright during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn Center, outside Minneapolis. The police chief, Tim Gannon, resigned stating that he believed "it is in the best interest of the community, the department, and my fellow officers if I resign immediately." Gannon had told a news conference Monday that Potter meant to use her Taser but instead grabbed her gun after a struggle with Wright. Mayor Mike Elliot said that he hoped these resignations would help heal the community and lead to reconciliation after two nights of protests and unrest.
