Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar is Dead, IDF Officials Report

Yahya Sinwar is believed to have been behind the October 7, 2023, attack. Following a DNA test and dental comparison, Israeli officials confirmed he is dead, according to anonymous sources quoted by several mainstream sources.

The Details: An IDF operation killed three Hamas militants, but the IDF has only reportedly confirmed the identity of Sinwar so far. Sinwar has not been seen in over a year and had been reportedly hiding in the tunnels below the Gaza Strip for a majority of the war. Graphic images of a body strongly resembling Sinwar have circulated online. According to CNN (Lean Left bias), the images show no sign of manipulation.

The Operation: During a routine operation, IDF soldiers encountered three militants near a Gaza building and engaged with them, killing them. The troops alerted senior commanders after finding a body resembling Sinwar.

For Context: Sinwar's death marks a potential tide shift in the war. As a CNN writer noted, "US officials have looked at Sinwar, simply put, the scalp that Israel needs most to be able to declare that they are done with the Gaza war."
