Bari Weiss Reportedly Set For Top CBS Role As Paramount Moves to Acquire The Free Press

Owner of The Free Press (Lean Right bias), Bari Weiss, is reportedly poised to enter a prominent position at CBS News (Lean Left).

The Details: Paramount, CBS’s parent company, run by CEO David Ellison, is reportedly close to making a deal to purchase The Free Press and moving Weiss to a top role at CBS. Reporting shows the deal could cost $200 million, but some with knowledge of the situation believe it will be less than that.

For Context: Formerly a writer for the New York Times Opinion (Left), Weiss was rated Center in 2025 through an AllSides Editorial Review. She left the New York Times in 2020, citing media bias and a hostile work environment, and founded the Free Press in 2022. CBS has come under new leadership following President Donald Trump’s lawsuit over an edited “60 Minutes” interview with former presidential candidate Kamala Harris. US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem also recently accused CBS of a “whitewash” when it chose not to air her full remarks on Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

HuffPost (Left) called Weiss “the polarizing editor and founder of The Free Press” in the opening line of the article, which was one of the examples Fox provided for “Liberals up in arms.” The Wrap (Center) highlighted Weiss’s history as an opinion writer with the New York Times, saying she was “respected by some for her independent approach and her critique of mainstream media as too woke, but criticized by others for giving a pass to powerful people” such as Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.
