Can Biden Win Again in 2024?

As President Joe Biden announces his bid for re-election in 2024, media pundits and voters offered different takes on whether he should run, and his chance of success.

For Context: According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, almost 50% of Democrats says that President Biden should not run again, and that he is too old. At the same time, about two-thirds of respondents to the poll do not want to see a rematch between Biden and the current leading Republican rival, former President Donald Trump.

Republican Reactions: Some Republicans believe that Biden will engage in another "basement campaign" - similar to 2020 - where he limited his interactions with the press and with the voters. They also see Biden's announcement focusing more on scaring voters by warning that "MAGA extremists want to cut social security," despite Republican leaders opposing such measures.

Democratic Reactions: Some Democrats see Biden as having evolved from a moderate to a liberal, and see no obvious successor to Biden in the party. They believe he should tout accomplishments such as the Build Back Better Act, the Inflation Reduction Act, and better-than-expected midterm election results.
