Biden to Travel to UK, Belgium for First Overseas Trip in June

President Joe Biden will visit the United Kingdom for the G-7 Summit and Belgium for the NATO Summit in his first overseas trip as president, the White House announced Friday. Biden will be in the U.K. from June 11-13 and will travel to Belgium beginning June 14. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement that Biden would “work to advance key U.S. policy priorities on public health, economic recovery, and climate change” at the G-7 Summit and “affirm the United States’ commitment to NATO, Transatlantic security, and collective defense,” as well as discussing “how to ensure effective burden sharing” at the NATO Summit. Psaki previously told reporters on January 22 that it would be “a bit of time” before Biden’s first overseas trip. Coverage was more common in left- and center-rated outlets. Some coverage in right-rated outlets more prominently highlighted Biden’s stated intent to discuss NATO burden sharing, a priority of former President Donald Trump.
