How Will Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine End?
Summary from the AllSides News Team
During the second week of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, outlets across the spectrum published perspectives on how the conflict might eventually end.
The various suggestions for ending the war came as diplomatic talks between Russia and Ukraine consistently failed to produce an end to the conflict. Talks on Thursday appeared to fail as well; while Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba said he proposed a 24-hour cease-fire, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov later said that “no one here was discussing a cease-fire.”
Perspectives on the war’s potential endings were more common in center-rated outlets. Voices in left and right-rated outlets tended to focus more on the war's implications for U.S. politics. Several voices across the spectrum focused on China’s relationship to the war, including the potential for the country to put pressure on Russia.

I See Three Scenarios for How This War EndsThe battle for Ukraine unfolding before our eyes has the potential to be the most transformational event in Europe since World War II and the most dangerous confrontation for the world since the Cuban missile crisis. I see three possible scenarios for how this story ends. I call them “the full-blown disaster,” “the dirty compromise” and “salvation.”

What’s happening: Russia invaded Ukraine at the end of February, with Russian President Vladimir Putin suggesting the move was a military operation.
Since that time, major cities across Ukraine have been attacked with missile strikes. Hospitals, Holocaust memorials and civilian-filled areas have been destroyed in the attacks, as I reported for the Deseret News.
