Previewing Tuesday’s Primaries in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Vermont and Connecticut

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Four states - Wisconsin, Minnesota, Vermont, and Connecticut - will hold primaries Tuesday to decide candidates in key Senate and gubernatorial races in November.

In Wisconsin, former President Donald Trump is backing construction company owner Tim Michels, while former Vice President Mike Pence is supporting former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch in the Republican primary for governor. In Minnesota's 1st Congressional District, Democrat Jeff Ettinger is running against Repubican Brad Finstad in a special election to serve out of rest of Repubican Representative Jim Hagedorn's term, as he passed away last February.

In Vermont, the only state in the country that has never sent a woman to Congress, Democrats Molly Gray and Becca Balint lead the race for the at-large Congressional District, and the winner would be heavily favored to win in November. And in Connecticut, Republican Bob Stefanowski is looking for a rematch against Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont, who in 2018 narrowly defeated Stefanowski, while three Republicans are competing to run against Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D) this fall - one candidate being Trump-backed Republican National Committee Member Leora Levy.

News outlets across the spectrum continue to mention a Republican divide as Trump and Pence endorse opposing primary candidates.

Mr. Pence is backing former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, and Mr. Trump has endorsed construction company owner Tim Michels. An Emerson College poll last week showed Ms. Kleefisch with a 2 percentage point lead — a statistical tie.

Wisconsin is a battleground state that will likely play an important role again in the 2024 presidential election. Mr. Trump, who is weighing a third run...

Four states will hold primary elections Tuesday, deciding candidates in key Senate and gubernatorial races this fall.

Here are the major races in each state.

Former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch faces businessman Tim Michels for the Republican nomination for governor. Michels is endorsed by Donald Trump, mainly because of a photo posted in 2019 by Kleefisch showing her daughter with Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Brian Hagedorn’s son. Trump opposes Hagedorn because of his vote to reject legal claims filed by Trump challenging the 2020 election results. The winner will...
