First 2022 Results Show Historic Wins in Senate, Governor's Races

The first results in from Election Day 2022 show several historic victories in races for Senate and governor.
Arkansas: Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R) is projected to beat engineer and minister Chris Jones (D) in the state's gubernatorial race. Sanders will be the first female governor of Arkansas, following in the footsteps of her father Mike, who served as the 44th governor of Arkansas from 1996 to 2007.
Maryland: Political newcomer Wes Moore (D) is projected to defeat state legislator Dan Cox (R) in the state's race for governor, and will become Maryland's first black governor.
Massachusetts: Attorney General Maura Healey (D) is projected to beat Republican Geoff Diehl in the state's gubernatorial race. Healey will become Massachusetts' first female governor and one of three openly gay U.S. governors.
Oklahoma: Republican Markwayne Mullin is projected to beat Kendra Horn (D) in a special election to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Jim Inhofe. Mullin will be the first Native American senator from Oklahoma in almost 100 years.

Maura Healey scored a decisive and historic victory Tuesday night, becoming the state's first elected female and first openly gay governor as well as the nation's first openly lesbian governor.
The Massachusetts attorney general overwhelmed her Republican opponent, former state Rep. Geoff Diehl, and put the governorship firmly back in Democratic hands after Republican Gov. Charlie Baker declined to run for a third term.
