Earlier today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released payroll data that showed the U.S. added 235,000 jobs in February. Naturally, Donald Trump commemorated the event on his favorite social- media platform, retweeting the Drudge Report headline “GREAT AGAIN: +235,000,” while his chief of staff, Reince Priebus,tweeted “.@POTUS Trump delivers in first #JobsReport. 235,000 new jobs and unemployment rate down to 4.7%. President Trump, who as a candidate often criticized the government’s jobs’ reports during the Obama administration as “phony,” became a believer on Friday.
The Labor Department, now part of the Trump administration, reported Friday that employers added 235,000 jobs in Mr. Trump’s first full month in office, and the unemployment rate dropped slightly to 4.7 percent.
Donald Trump’s spokesman acknowledged on Friday that the White House was now cheering U.S. job growth figures that Mr. Trump routinely dismissed on the campaign trail as misleading: “They may have been phony in the past,” press secretary Sean Spicer said with a smile, “but it’s very real now.”
