Perspectives: Biden Picks Yellen for Treasury Secretary

Summary from the AllSides News Team

On Monday, it was reported that projected 2020 election winner Joe Biden planned to nominate Janet Yellen for Treasury secretary. If confirmed, Yellen would become the first woman to fill the role once held by Alexander Hamilton. Yellen previously served as the first female Chair of the Federal Reserve under President Barack Obama. She also served on the Federal Reserve Board from 1994 to 1997 and again from 2010 to 2018. From 1997 to 1999, Yellen served as Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton. Voices in center- and left-rated outlets were generally supportive of choosing Yellen for Treasury secretary. Voices in right-rated outlets were mixed, offering some criticism and some optimism.

IN THE FIRST instalment of the “Harry Potter” series, the protagonist stumbles across the Mirror of Erised. Those storms are about to become Ms. Yellen’s headache again. As President-elect Joe Biden’s pick for Treasury secretary, Ms. Yellen is looking at the most political role she has had in nearly three decades of high-profile policy making. Her job will be to formulate and defend Mr. Biden’s policies at a time when the economy is at a crossroads...

Opinion

Many of my conservative colleagues have succumbed to Biden Derangement Syndrome. It's the corollary to the Trump Derangement Syndrome that has plagued most of my progressive friends. If the report that Biden will appoint Janet Yellen as his Treasury Secretary bears out conservatives can exhale. And celebrate.

I wrote here recently in America Rises Up to Crush the Left: "Biden, suave but nobody's patsy, will domesticate his party's left by throwing a sop or two to Cerberus. Big Reveal: The left was and is an imaginary hobgoblin."
