President Donald Trump told House Republicans that he expects Democrats will impeach him if his party loses the midterms in a speech at the Republican conference on Tuesday.

The Details: Trump said, "You gotta win the midterms. Because if we don't win the midterms…they'll find a reason to impeach me." He continued, "We don't impeach them because you know why? They're meaner than we are. We should have impeached Joe Biden for a hundred different things." Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) made similar comments at a Turning Point USA conference in December.

For Context: Trump was impeached twice during his first term, first in 2019 on charges related to accusations that he pressured Ukraine to interfere with the then-upcoming election and then again in 2021 for his role regarding the events on January 6 at the Capitol. Some Democrats have suggested impeaching Trump due to the US operation that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Saturday.
