White House Updates Public on Trump's Health

Several reports about President Donald Trump's trip to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center emerged after he tested positive for coronavirus Thursday night. White House physicians said Saturday morning that Trump’s condition was improving; the same day, a White House official told reporters that Trump's vitals over the last 24 hours were "very concerning." Saturday afternoon, Trump tweeted a video saying he thinks he will be back soon, and photos of himself working from the hospital. On Sunday, White House physician Navy Cmdr. Dr. Sean Conley said Trump received supplemental oxygen treatment after he experienced two episodes of transient drops in oxygen levels. Conley also said that Trump started treatment with dexamethasone, a steroid used to treat severely ill COVID-19 patients, along with two other drugs. On Sunday, Trump's medical team told press that the president could return to the White House "as early as Monday." Coverage from right-rated outlets tended to focus on Trump's video and the report that he could return as early as Monday. Some right-rated outlets also highlighted Trump's supporters who gathered in prayer vigils for him over the weekend. Left- and center-rated outlets tended to frame the president's health updates as "conflicting," often highlighting the dexamethasone and oxygen treatments he received.
