Biden to Announce Emissions Goal At International Climate Summit this Week

President Joe Biden will announce his new emissions goals for addressing climate change at this week's international White House climate summit. Approximately 40 world leaders, including leaders from China and Russia, will virtually join Biden and climate envoy John Kerry to discuss climate action steps in order to meet the 2015 Paris agreement. The U.S. is also expected to unveil its national plan for cutting greenhouse gas emissions over the next 10 years at or ahead of the climate summit. This comes as 13 of the U.S.' leading electricity companies are pledging to work with Biden to slash carbon emissions; the companies also sent a letter to Biden, urging his administration to design a wide-reaching energy agenda to curb carbon emission more than 80% below 2005 levels by 2030.
