U.S. military uses laser to blast cartel drones at southern border

The U.S. military said it blasted three cartel-linked drones out of the sky during the late-night hours of Tuesday and Wednesday, opening a new frontier in the shadow war at the southern border.

Defense officials said they used the Army Multipurpose High Energy Laser to "engage and defeat" the three drones, which they deemed hostile based on their use in direct support of activities posing a physical threat to U.S. personnel.
