Charlotte-Mecklenburg School (CMS) officials report that over 20,000 students were absent from school on Monday.
While the official attendance data still needs to be finalized and approved by the state, CMS officials told WJZY that approximately 20,935 students missed school on Monday. This makes up around 15 percent of the students enrolled in the school district, which is the 16th largest in the country.
