A man in Norway awoke to find a large container ship had ploughed into his front garden narrowly missing his home.

The 135-metre NCL Salten ran aground at 5am on Thursday after entering Trondheim fjord in central Norway.

The ship, which was reportedly travelling at 16 knots (about 30km/h), headed straight for Johan Helberg’s home in Byneset, near Trondheim, missing his house by mere metres.

It is not yet clear what caused the crash.
