Gas prices: Costs continue to fall across the country

The national average price for a gallon of regular gas fell to a new low on Monday, coming in at $3.13, according to AAA. This was cheaper than a week ago, when the average price for a gallon of regular was $3.175. Monday’s pricing point was the least expensive gas has been in the country since Jan. 2024, when the average price was $3.075.

Gas prices are an important topic heading into the presidential election. With President Joe Biden deciding not to seek reelection, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic presidential nominee, has to indicate how she will address the country’s gas prices and energy costs and how both affect the economy and people’s finances.
