Almost Everything Is Going Trump’s Way—Except Financially

Donald Trump has been on a hot streak of late, racking up political and legal wins as his foes, from Nikki Haley to Jack Smith to Mitch McConnell, are suffering setbacks or standing down. Yet his one big loss—in the New York civil-fraud case—could cost him the most. 

The former president this past week got what is expected to be a significant delay in the federal case against him on allegations that he plotted to overturn the 2020 election, when the Supreme Court agreed to consider his immunity claim, a blow to special counsel Smith’s hopes for a speedy trial. A similar Georgia case has taken a hit as Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis fights disqualification over a romantic relationship with her top deputy.

On Friday, a Florida judge presiding over a separate case involving Trump’s handling of classified documents appeared likely to push back those proceedings. Trump attended the hearing, sitting between his lawyers with his hands crossed and smiling at times.
