Mayor Eric Adams on Monday ordered all city agencies — including the NYPD — to start cutting expenses and plan for years of further belt-tightening due to stock market losses, “elevated inflation” and the potential for a devastating recession.
The 3% across-the-board directive was delivered in a dire memo from the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget, which said Adams is “implementing a Program to Eliminate the Gap” that will require spending be cut in fiscal 2023, which began on July 1 and ends June 30.
