List of Coronavirus-Related Restrictions in Every State

For two years, governors and health departments across the country have issued orders and recommendations on the status of schools, businesses and public services in response to the coronavirus pandemic. As the delta and omicron variants spread, some states, cities and counties reinstated mandates they had previously lifted. With the omicron wave subsiding, many of those mandates are ending.

President Joe Biden signed an executive order that requires all federal executive branch employees to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Some states have adopted vaccine mandates that apply to state employees and health care workers.

Per federal order, masks are required nationwide on public modes of transportation, including commercial flights, and in transit hubs such as airports and bus and train stations, until at least April 18.

When a state is listed as fully reopened, it means that businesses no longer have to follow capacity limits or curfews. Most public and private gatherings of any size are allowed (large indoor event venues may still be subject to restrictions). Domestic travelers are free to visit the state without quarantining or providing proof of a negative COVID-19 test. Minimal restrictions may still apply in certain settings.
