Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy challenged press secretary Jen Psaki on the CDC’s new mask recommendations.

Doocy asked why, after weeks of being told that the coronavirus vaccines were safe and effective, officials were reversing course and telling vaccinated people to go back to wearing face masks.

Psaki responded by saying that the coronavirus vaccines were saving lives, referencing a chart behind her and adding that most of those who were being hospitalized were not vaccinated.

“If vaccines work — this sign says that they do — then why do people who have the vaccine need to now wear masks the same as people who have not had it?” Doocy asked again, pointing to the same chart.

“Because the public health leaders in our administration have made the determination, based on data, that that is a way to make sure they are protected, their loved ones are protected, that is an extra step given the transmissibility of the virus,” Psaki said.
