Crimean Oil Depot Explodes From Suspected Ukrainian Drone Strike

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot in Crimea on Saturday, according to Russian officials.

The Details: Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhayev reported a drone attack on the facility and four damaged tanks as a result. He also reported that a second drone was shot down. Ukraine didn't directly claimed responsibility for the strike; one Ukrainian intelligence official called it “God’s punishment” for recent Russian strikes on Ukrainian territory. No casualties were reported.

For Context: Russia annexed the formerly Ukrainian Crimea in early 2014, marking the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview earlier this week that Ukraine will seek to reclaim Crimea in an upcoming counteroffensive.

Key Quotes: Ukrainian intelligence official, Andriy Yusov said "This punishment will be long-lasting. In the near future, it is better for all residents of temporarily occupied Crimea not to be near military facilities and facilities that provide for the aggressor's army."

How The Media Covered It: Sources across the spectrum covered the events similarly, with certain discrepancies in reporting. Fox News and Associated Press reported Governor Razvozhayev as saying “two enemy drones” struck the facility, while two more were neutralized. Reuters and Russian state media TASS referenced Razvozhayev’s Telegram update saying only one drone struck the facility. Ukrainian state media agency Ukrinform is yet to report on the story.

A Ukrainian drone strike caused a massive fire to erupt at an oil depot in Crimea, a Russia-appointed official reported Saturday.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, Russia’s selected governor of Sevastopol, said that authorities had spotted two "enemy drones" that attacked the depot, with four tanks burned down as a result. Local forces were able to shoot down a third drone and disable a fourth through radio-electronic means.

Razvozhayev assigned the fire the highest level of difficulty to extinguish, but he claimed the fire had at least been contained. The fire has not yet claimed any casualties,...

A drone strike caused a fire at a fuel storage facility in the Crimean port of Sevastopol, sending a vast column of black smoke into the sky before it was extinguished, the city's Moscow-installed governor said on Saturday.

Experts examined the site and "it became clear that only one drone was able to reach the oil reservoir," Mikhail Razvozhaev said on the Telegram messaging app, adding no one had been injured in the fire.

Another drone was downed, its wreckage found on the shore near the terminal, Razvozhaev added.

A massive fire erupted at an oil depot in Crimea after it was hit by two of Ukraine’s drones, a Russia-appointed official there reported Saturday, the latest in a series of attacks on the annexed peninsula as Russia braces for an expected Ukrainian counteroffensive.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow-installed governor of Sevastopol, a port city in Crimea, posted videos and photos of the blaze on his Telegram channel.

Razvozhayev said the fire at the city’s harbor was assigned the highest ranking in terms of how complicated it will be to extinguish. However, he...
