Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, a Taliban co-founder who led negotiations with the U.S. and other countries, was named acting deputy prime minister. The announcement came as hundreds in Kabul protested to resist the Taliban and maintain the gains made in women’s rights under the previous government.
