Al Ahli Hospital Explosion: Media Criticized for Initial Coverage

Media outlets are facing scrutiny over their coverage of the explosion at the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City on Tuesday.

For Context: Initially, some left-rated outlets cited only a Palestinian source with links to Hamas blaming the explosion on an Israeli airstrike. Many of these outlets later altered headlines and coverage after Israel denied involvement and produced evidence pointing to Hamas being behind the explosion. Hamas has vowed to produce evidence pointing to Israel’s involvement. While some voices remain adamant that Israel was behind the explosion, citing Israel's “usual post-atrocity routine,” many voices across the spectrum are criticizing the media outlets that initially framed Israel as the culprit.

From the Left: Max Boot (Left bias) said Hamas won a "significant information-warfare victory" in what he deemed the “battle for the narrative,” writing, “I am not suggesting that anyone should uncritically accept whatever Israel says. But that same skepticism should certainly extend to Hamas, a terrorist organization that is not noted for its devotion to either honesty or human decency.”

From the Right: A writer in the Washington Examiner (Lean Right bias) argued the coverage demonstrated left-rated media's “willingness to embrace and peddle terrorist propaganda,” writing, “Whatever you think the answer is, it is clear that these media outlets do not deserve the benefit of the doubt ... This wasn’t an innocent mistake or a typo. This was a conscious decision to parrot terrorist talking points and present it as news.”
