Trump Admin Pauses Immigration Raids on Farms, Hotels, and Restaurants

Summary from the AllSides News Team

President Donald Trump instructed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers to halt operations targeting unauthorized workers in farms, hotels, and restaurants.

The Details: The order instructed regional ICE workers to “hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants, and operating hotels.”

For Context: Trump told reporters that “Farmers are being hurt badly. They have very good workers who have worked for them for 20 years. They’re not citizens, but they’ve turned out to be great, and we’re going to have to do something about that.” This shift followed Trump’s order to increase ICE raids in Democrat-run cities.

How the Media Covered It: Associated Press (AP) (Left bias) included responses from American businesses, writing, “Farm bureaus in California say raids at packinghouses and fields are threatening businesses that supply much of the country’s food.” The Daily Wire (Lean Right bias) quoted Jesse Kelly, a conservative radio host, saying, “If Trump hands out amnesty to a bunch of illegals because his big business buddies have been blowing up his phone, it will stain his legacy forever.” NewsNation (Center bias) noted a letter six Congress members sent to the head of ICE urging it to focus on deporting criminals, writing, “While we do agree that we are a nation of laws—and that all who crossed our borders illegally are subject to those laws—there are levels of priority that must be considered when it comes to immigration enforcement.”
