CA Truck Crash Kills 4, Unauthorized Immigrant Arrested for Manslaughter, Driving Under Influence

A 21-year-old Indian national, who reportedly entered the US illegally in 2022, was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated after a deadly highway accident in Ontario, California on Tuesday.

The Details: Jashanpreet Singh was driving a semi-truck on the 10 Freeway when he rammed into several vehicles, causing an eight-vehicle crash that left three dead and four others hospitalized in various conditions. Singh’s dashcam captured the crash on video. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials told CBS News (Lean Left bias) that Singh crossed the US-Mexico border in 2022. Fox News (Right) reported that Singh “was first encountered by Border Patrol agents in California's El Centro Sector in March 2022 and released into the interior of the country pending an immigration hearing,” according to “federal sources.” 

For Context: Migrant encounters at the southern border rose sharply in 2021 and peaked in late 2023. A Republican-led House report in August 2024 claimed the Biden administration released 99 migrants on the terror watchlist into the US during that time period.

How The Media Covered It: CBS News prominently included a quote from Singh’s reported “best friend,” who said of Singh, “He's an amazing guy... He would talk normally, happily, always with love and care.” Fox News pinned blame on the Biden administration in its headline, noting that Singh was released into the US by it. CBS noted he was released into the US in 2022 but didn’t mention Biden’s administration.
