Recapping Tuesday's 2022 Primaries in New York and Florida
Summary from the AllSides News Team
On Tuesday, voters in New York and Florida went to the polls to cast their ballots in primary elections there.
In New York, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D) soundly defeated Rep. Carolyn Maloney, winning 56% of the vote to Maloney's 24%, after an unusually contentious campaign in the 12th Congressional District of Manhattan. Nadler, who is the House Judiciary Committee Chair, decided to vacate his seat in the 10th Congressional District earlier this year after a court-appointed special master redrew the district lines, resulting in the loss of a large portion of Nadler's constituency. He then launched his campaign in the 12th Congressional District and is expected to win against Republican Michael Zumbluskas in November.
In Florida, Democratic voters selected former Governor Charlie Crist to face Governor Ron DeSantis in November. Crist, a former Republican, defeated state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried with 60% to 35% of the vote. Crist reportedly has about $1.5 million left in campaign funds, whereas Governor DeSantis has more than $132.4 million between his political committee and his campaign account.
Some news sources on the right focused on former President Donald Trump's reaction to the primaries. Some on the left focused on Democrats' chances in November.
