Summary from the AllSides News Team
President-elect Donald Trump publicized plans on Sunday to nominate Kash Patel, his former aide, to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which fueled a variety of media reactions.
For Context: Patel, who was reportedly hit with an Iranian cyberattack on Tuesday, would replace current director Christopher Wray. He is a long-time supporter of Trump and has called for significant FBI reform, including in regards to media patrol.
From the Left: Opinion writers on the left often referred to Patel as a “loyalist,” and many used more polarizing words, such as “dangerous.” Ruth Marcus (Lean Left bias) for Washington Post (Lean Left bias) expressed her opinion that Republicans should put aside political correctness and respond to Patel’s nomination the way many responded to that of the former attorney general nominee, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.). She went on to state, “Presidents are generally entitled to political appointees of their choosing, but the FBI director is supposed to be insulated from politics.”
From the Right: Those on the right often focused on broader support for FBI reform. David Marcus (Right bias) for Fox News (Opinion) (Right bias) called Patel, “somebody with a fresh set of eyes who has a chance to identify and cure the abuses of an FBI that has become too often an enemy, not a friend of liberty and freedom.” This article was updated on 12/4/24, 12:20 p.m. EST.

Before we get to the laundry list of FBI abuses that Patel would hopefully put an end to, let us first establish that this is a well-credentialed man who served at high levels in the first Trump administration. This is not an influencer.
But Patel is...

President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of uber-loyalist Kash Patel to be FBI director is a hair-on-fire moment. Trump is poised to install a team of toadies at the Justice Department — a flotilla of his criminal defense lawyers but most ominously an attorney general, Pam Bondi, who has vowed that “the prosecutors will be prosecuted,” and now, with Patel, an FBI director who would add journalists to that list.
“Yes, we’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens, who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections,” Patel said of Trump’s...
