Cracker Barrel Rebranding Sparks Political Upset

Summary from the AllSides News Team

Cracker Barrel, the comfort-food chain known for its southern spirit and antique-American decor, officially modernized its brand after 48 years, sparking nationwide contentions. The Cracker Barrel controversy resulted in nearly a $100 million drop in the business’ stock value, with commentators agreeing on little other than the logo’s unsightliness.

From the Left: Luis Prada, in an opinion for Vice (Left bias), called the political upset a “Rorschach test for racists.” He claimed the company had been struggling due to factors such as President Donald Trump’s tariffs – not the “wokeness” conservatives touted – and that the “run-of-the-mill corporate strategy” was the result. “The blandness of the strategy is the reason the logo change went over like a sloppy fart in an elevator… But when you’ve primed your political base to see white genocide everywhere they look, they’ll find it in the stupidest of places,” he wrote. “We’re losing sight of the broader picture here: Absolutely none of you care that much about Cracker Barrel.”

From the Right: The “cracker-jack whiz-kid marketing team” replaced the iconic aesthetics of Cracker Barrel with the “aesthetics of wokeness,” according to David Marcus (Right) in an opinion for Fox News. “This may not exactly be wokeness at work, as we have seen with so many brands such as Target and Bud Light, but it is something similarly lifeless and cold… It feels like this very authentic place is being turned into a cookie-cutter version of every other chain restaurant. And what is wokeness ultimately, but a demand for uniformity?” Marcus criticized the rebrand that he claimed emphasizes the “frantic” shifts in modern American life: “It seems every day we awake to a world that we recognize less.”

Opinion

Few things in American life have felt as trapped in the amber of history as Cracker Barrel restaurants, with their recipe of comfort food served up in cozy confines that evoke a bygone era. It's little wonder Americans routinely wait for an hour to get a table after church or welcome a road-trip diversion when they see the classic logo on a highway sign.

Now, the cracker-jack whiz-kid marketing team at the iconic eatery's corprate headquarters has decided to forgo all of this, including possibly, based on public reaction to...

Opinion

Cracker Barrel changed its logo, pissing off conservatives, so they’re calling it “woke,” which is the conservative slur for anything they don’t like, regardless of whether or not it has anything to do with race. But it isn’t just online nonsense—Cracker Barrel’s stock lost nearly $100 million in value over the switch.

Cracker Barrel wasn’t in the best position before all of this. The company’s been struggling in recent years. In an attempt to change its fortunes, the chain’s 55-year-old image has been updated under CEO Julie Felss Masino, who...
