Biden to End Support for Saudi-Led Attacks in Yemen

National security adviser Jake Sullivan announced Thursday morning that President Joe Biden would end American support for the Saudi Arabia-led coalition’s offensive operations against the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The conflict has contributed to a humanitarian crisis in the country over the last five years, leaving millions without food, water or electricity. Biden is also reportedly expected to name Timothy Lenderking, a career diplomat with experience in the region, as a new special envoy for Yemen. The announcements also come roughly two weeks after Biden directed the State Department to review the Trump administration’s decision to label the Houthi rebels as a foreign terrorist organization. As of Thursday afternoon, coverage was most prominent in center-rated outlets. Coverage in some left-rated outlets focused more on former President Donald Trump's support for the Saudi-led coalition.
