New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani faced backlash for saying that identification was needed for an emergency program to shovel snow as a winter storm hit the city.
Over the weekend, Mamdani requested New Yorkers sign up to become emergency snow shovelers, but paperwork would be required.
"For those who want to do more to help your neighbors and earn some extra cash, you too can become an emergency snow shoveler," Mamdani said during a news briefing on Saturday. "Just show up at your local sanitation garage with your paperwork which is accessible online."
