A severely malnourished infant from Gaza, whose pictures were widely circulated worldwide, also has a pre-existing medical condition that affects his muscle development, according to a clarifying editors' note issued by The New York Times on Tuesday.
The note was issued regarding a widely circulated picture of 18-month-old Mohammed Zakaria al-Mutawaq, incorporated in a Times story published last week detailing the starvation in Gaza. The Times said al-Mutawaq suffers from severe malnutrition.
