DNC in Dire Financial Condition Ahead of 2026 Midterms

Several mainstream outlets are reporting that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is short on cash ahead of the upcoming 2026 midterms and 2028 presidential election.

From the Right: Just The News (Lean Right bias) noted that the Republican National Committee (RNC) reported having over $128 million in cash without any debt, while the DNC reported about $16 million in cash and roughly $18.5 million in debt. The outlet highlighted that the disparity extends to political action committees (PACs) as well, with Republicans receiving twice as much from PACs as Democrats. Democratic candidates have still had success raising money, though, according to Just The News, which mentioned a report from the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue. ActBlue recently said it raised $586 million for candidates in Q2 of 2026 alone, with $215 million coming in June and 573,000 donors being first-timers.

From the Center: The Wall Street Journal (Center) noted that several top Democratic donors like George and Alex Soros or Reid Hoffman have remained dormant so far in 2026, while party strategists and insiders have criticized Ken Martin's leadership of the DNC. According to The Journal, an anonymous Democrat strategist said a running joke with some donors is that DNC stands for "Do Not Contribute." Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) said, "The amount of money is certainly concerning, but at the same time, we're not necessarily losing elections these days because candidates don't have enough money. It is because [Republicans] have billionaires." WSJ highlighted that in "most competitive Senate races," however, "star" Democrats are outraising Republicans.

From the Left: Politico (Lean Left) reported "major Democratic donors" are "getting really anxious" ahead of the 2028 presidential election, citing a loss of faith in the DNC. Politico spoke to "more than a half dozen" donors who were allowed to speak anonymously. Bob Kerrigan, a Florida-based donor, said the DNC never reached out to ask for a donation and complained the party has "never figured out a way to be a party of opposition." Other donors who went unnamed expressed concern at Martin's leadership and the party's general direction. Politico also spoke to several Democratic senators who said they weren't concerned with the party's future.
