Tucker Carlson Says NSA Spied On Him, NSA Denies Claim
Summary from the AllSides News Team
On Tuesday, the National Security Agency (NSA) denied Fox News host Tucker Carlson's claims that the agency is spying on him. Carlson said on his show Monday that a an anonymous U.S. government official warned Carlson that the NSA is "monitoring Carlson's electronic communications and is planning to leak them in an attempt to take [the] show off the air." Carlson said he was convinced because the anonymous official apparently had information about a story "that could have only come directly from my texts and emails." The NSA posted tweet Tuesday denying Carlson's allegations, saying that the NSA is not allowed to target an individual without a court order that explicitly authorizes targeting. When asked about Carlson's claims in a press conference, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said the NSA "focuses on foreign threats and individuals who are attempting to do us harm on foreign soil." After the NSA posted the statement, Carlson called it "an entire paragraph of lies." on his show Tuesday.
Some right-rated outlets focused on the details of Carlson's claims. Coverage from left-rated outlets tended to frame Carlson's claim as false; some left-rated outlets also highlighted other unsubstantiated claims Carlson has made previously.
