Top Trump Ally Steve Bannon Released From Prison One Week Before Election

Conservative podcaster and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon was released from prison Tuesday, drawing media coverage across the spectrum.

For Context: Bannon worked in Trump’s cabinet for six months from his inauguration in January 2017. He is the host of the influential right-wing Bannon’s War Room podcast. Bannon was convicted on Contempt of Congress charges in October 2022 for refusing a subpoena to testify before a House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. He reported to prison on July 1, 2024, after the Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal. His release comes one week before Election Day.
