Head Editor of Scientific American Resigns After Calling Trump Supporters “Fascists” and “Bigoted”

The editor-in-chief of Scientific American (Lean Left bias) has resigned following a series of posts on Bluesky criticizing Trump supporters and referring to them as fascists as election results came in. 

Key Details: In now-deleted Election Night posts on Bluesky, Helmuth referred to Trump supporters as “f–king fascists.” On Nov. 7, she posted an apology for her remarks and said they “do not reflect the position of Scientific American.” On Nov. 14, Helmuth announced she was leaving Scientific American.

For Context: Scientific American have previously criticized Trump, claiming he promotes eugenics. On November 12, an X account posted screenshots of Helmuth’s posts asking if she is “dedicated to uncompromising scientific integrity?” or a “political activist who has taken over a scientific institution?” to which Elon Musk replied, “The latter.”

Key Quotes: The now-deleted posts include Helmuth saying: “I apologize to younger voters that my Gen X is full of f–king fascists,” And “Solidarity to everybody whose meanest, dumbest, most bigoted high-school classmates are celebrating early results because f–k them to the moon and back.”

How the Media Covered It: The Washington Post (Lean Left bias) did not include Helmuth’s quote in its headline, describing her remarks as “election comments” that sparked criticism from Trump and Musk. The New York Post (Lean Right bias) headline described her remarks as an “expletive-filled rant against Trump voters.”
