Twitter Permanently Suspends Project Veritas Account

Twitter permanently suspended Project Veritas' account on Thursday, citing violations of Twitter's policies against publishing private information. According to Project Veritas, the ban comes after Project Veritas posted a video of Facebook Vice President of Integrity Guy Rosen speaking to Project Veritas reporter Christian Hartsock outside of his home. Hartstock asked Rosen about comments he made in a recently leaked internal Facebook meeting where Rosen said there is “a system that is able to freeze commenting” when there could be “hate speech.” A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to The Hill that the main Project Veritas account was permanently suspended, while founder James O'Keefe had his account temporarily locked, though Twitter declined to say what specific tweets or information triggered the ban. Several recent tweets on O'Keefe's timeline also appeared to have been deleted. In a post on Project Veritas's public Telegram channel Thursday afternoon, the group said it is appealing this decision, claiming no privacy was violated, that that the reporter on the ground never revealed the location, and that no street signs that would indicate the location were visible in the video. On Jan. 8, Project Veritas leaked a call in which Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said his company would be ramping up censorship. The story received wide coverage from right-rated outlets, some of whom tended to frame the story as a move by Big Tech to silence conservative voices. Coverage from left- and center-rated outlets tended to highlight Twitter's comments about privacy violation, as well as Project Veritas' history and the criticism they have received for past projects.
