Is Patriotism in Decline? Polls Highlight Partisan Divides

Several recent polls showcase significant partisan splits on the feeling of patriotism.

Gallup Poll: "A record-low 58% of U.S. adults say they are 'extremely' (41%) or 'very' (17%) proud to be an American, down nine percentage points from last year and five points below the prior low from 2020," according to new data from Gallup (Center). But there's a stark partisan divide; 92% of Republicans said they were extremely or very proud to be American, compared to 36% of Democrats.

Fox News Poll: A Fox News (Right) survey says 58% of people are proud of the US, "up 13 percentage points since June 2024 and the highest since 2011 when a record 69% were proud." The survey shared divides with the Gallup data; 85% of Republicans in Fox's survey said they were proud of the US, versus 36% of Democrats.

YouGov/Economist Poll: "44 percent of Americans said they think the country is becoming less patriotic, while 14 percent said they think the nation is becoming more patriotic. Some 42 percent said the level of patriotism has remained about the same," suggests a recent survey from YouGov and The Economist (Lean Left). According to a report on the survey from The Hill (Center), "the majority of Americans, 75 percent, consider themselves either very, at 37 percent, or somewhat, at 38 percent, patriotic... Twice as many Republicans said they are very patriotic, 54 percent, compared to Democrats, 27 percent, the survey found."
